We are Astro Tourism India, – Pioneers of “Astronomy related travel in the country, the term “Astrotoursim” was coined by “Dr. Sachin Bambha- The Father Of Astrotourism”, one of our leading lights back in 2006 and the seeds were sown; these days the term is used for its obvious reasons. We have to our merit a unique distinction of having organized ECLIPSE observation from LAND, SEA and the SKIES! Yes you read it right, we do not only lay claim to starting the trend but also popularising it to the extent that countries like Chile have a dedicated “Ministry of Astrotourism” inspired from us. We have rubbed shoulders with and being awarded by personalities including Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for our stupendous success.
The first ones to realise the potential, integrate it in travel itineraries, we pulled-off the first private passenger flight dedicated to space exploration in 2009.
This then inspired Indian Army to found IIA (Indian Institute of Astrophysics) and Bihar Government to dedicate “Taregana” a place in Bihar to stargazing lovers.
From taking student to “NASA” with Project Atlantis, spearheading the first one-of-its-kind astrotourism ports “astroport” in 2014, we popularised astronomy exploration as a subject in the science departments across India and started Stargazing concept across nationally and Internationally. The Indian Govt. has now come to realise the potential of Astrotourism” in boosting the economy after our tireless effort of over 2 decades.
Travel is the bedrock of a curious mind and astrotourism is the fuel for the craving soul. Astro Tourism as concept captures the mystique elements of the universe and incorporates into the itinerary to make a memorable experience for the traveler. Astronomy has intrigued me from childhood and I have since remained an Astronomer at heart and by work. I always looked at the sky and wondered what the cosmos held for humankind. A mere look through a telescope at the vistas of the sky, sparks the mind, makes one curious and excited and opens up a new mental horizon for the person. It makes one realize how small we are in the vastness of the universe and in a positive way connects us to the larger aspect of this cosmos. A wonderful stress buster; open fields, clear skies and sparkling stars makes one feel lighter and happier.
The concept of Astrotourism, was a natural progression in the journey of SPACE, as it expanded its horizons. I coined the definition of Astrotourism and it has since cleared the scope of services, Astrotourism would offer to people.
I define it as “traveling for the purpose of astronomy or doing astronomy while you travel”.
Every year we are looking to add value and increase scientific knowledge for the participants and above all pass on our passion of astronomy to the youth.
